The DOK Training Modules can be provided to K-12 educators at all grade levels and in all subject areas as a half-day, full day, or ongoing professional development seminars.  They can also be used to expand upon and support the professional development provided through the DOK Training and the Good Questions Training also offered by MAVERIK EDUCATION LLC.

Depth of Knowledge Training Modules

Participants will use Webb's DOK levels to assess and align the depth of knowledge consistency of next generation science standards (e,g., NGSS) and curricular and assessment items.   They will also learn how to superimpose Webb's DOK levels with Bloom's Revised Taxonomy to challenge and engage students to develop, deepen, and demonstrate their learning in detail, insightfully, innovatively, and in their own unique way through scientific inquiry and engineering design.

The Depth of Knowledge Training Modules focus on how to use Webb's DOK levels to develop and deliver deeper, student-centered teaching and learning experiences in a specific subject area or for a particular topic.  These seminars, trainings, and workshops are designed specifically for educators who are interested in learning how to use Webb's DOK levels to plan and provide instruction and assessments in a certain content area.  They also provide educators an opportunity to code and compare the cognitive demand of academic standards and curricular and assessment items using Webb's DOK levels.

Participants will use Webb's DOK levels to assess and align the depth of knowledge consistency of college and career ready mathematics standards and curricular and assessment items.  They will also learn how to superimpose Webb's DOK levels with Bloom's Revised Taxonomy to challenge and engage students to think deeply and express and share how they can transfer and use math in different contexts and new situations deep within a subject area, across the curriculum, and beyond the classroom.

Participants will learn the following:

  • Recognize what exactly is depth of knowledge (DOK)?
  • Understand how Webb's DOK levels mark and measure the cognitive demand of content area standards and assessment items.
  • Use Webb's DOK levels to compare and code the complexity and demand of content area standards and assessment items.
  • Analyze the cognitive complexity and demand of content area standards and assessment items using Webb's DOK levels.
  • Evaluate if standards and assessment items are fully, acceptably, or insufficiently aligned for depth of knowledge consistency.
  • Create standards-based teaching and learning experiences and standards-based grading report cards using Webb's DOK levels.

Participants will use Webb's DOK levels to assess and align the depth of knowledge consistency of college and career ready reading, writing, speaking and listening, and language standards and curricular and assessment items.  They will also learn how to superimpose Webb's DOK levels with Bloom's Revised Taxonomy to challenge and engage students to think critically about the texts and topics they are reading and reviewing and think creatively about how they can write, produce and share their own original texts in diverse formats and media.
